1896 – James W. Gordon started practicing law in 1896, first with Smith, Moncure & Gordon (1896 to 1912), then after William A. Moncure (1863-1947) became a judge, with Smith & Gordon (1912 to 1936). James W. Gordon formed Gordon & Gordon with his son, James W. Gordon, Jr., in 1940.
1909 – R. Reynolds Florance was practicing law in the Mutual Building at 9th & Main Streets, Richmond, VA. Numerous lawyers and professionals called the Mutual Building home.
1924 – Richard “Dick” Florance, graduated from the University of Virginia law school in 1924 joining his father in the practice of law in Richmond at the firm which was then known as Florance & Florance.
1930 – Walker Florance joined his father and brother in the practice of law at Florance & Florance.
1940 – Gordon & Gordon formed with James W. Gordon and his son, James W. Gordon, Jr.
1952 – James W. Gordon, Jr., had practiced with his father, James W. Gordon in the firm of Gordon & Gordon beginning in 1940, but after his father died in 1952, he joined Florance & Florance.
1953 – Delmar Brown joined the firm in 1953, he became a partner in 1956, and his name was added to the firm name, which became Florance, Gordon & Brown, in 1957.
2003 – FGB moved one block away to the firm’s current location in the James Center, 901 East Cary Street, 19th Floor, where we had more space to grow.
2017 – Kim Ramsey was elected President of the Firm, the first woman to hold that position.
1945 – Gordon Andrews joined the firm in 1945 and was a partner at his death in 1979.
1962 – Pauline Ring Prosise begins work at FGB during her senior year of high school (still with the firm as of 2025)
1976 – Cary A. Ralston joined the firm in 1976 and retired in 2016.
1983 – Robert J. Kloeti joined the firm in 1983 and retired in 2016. He died in 2025.
1990 – James L. Tate, Jr. (1961-1992) Jim joined the firm in 1986 (and again in 1990 after a time in the U.S. Army JAG Corps 1987-1989) practicing real estate law until his death in 1992.
